Steubenville, the county seat of Jefferson County, sits on the banks of the Ohio River and is a city rich in history and tradition.  Steubenville was founded in 1797, named for Fort Steuben which was in turn named for Baron von Steuben, who trained George Washington’s troops during the American Revolution.  Steubenville has a City Manager/City Council form of government.  Steubenville is home to Franciscan University of Steubenville and Jefferson Community College, offering exceptional educational opportunities to students from Jefferson County and around the world.  Steubenville offers outstanding medical services at Trinity Health Service and Riverside Medical of Ohio, as well as numerous groups of medical specialists. The City of Steubenville provides a variety of recreational facilities for its residents, and in June of each year hosts the annual Traditions Festival, which combines the Dean Martin Festival, the Historic Fort Steuben Festival, Jefferson County Historical Association Open House, the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church Food Fest, and many additional groups and events.
